What is SYSVAK?

SYSVAK (the Norwegian Immunisation Registry) is the Norwegian health registry that records vaccines given in Norway. It is managed by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI). Vaccines registered in SYSVAK are visible to you under «Mine vaksiner» (My vaccines) on helsenorge.no, and to health professionals who treat you.

Why are vaccines from abroad not already in SYSVAK?

SYSVAK only receives information automatically from Norwegian vaccinators. Vaccines given abroad must be registered manually by a doctor after the documentation has been judged credible.

How long does it take?

We handle orders within 24 hours. The doctor reviews your documentation and registers approved vaccines in SYSVAK-nett (FHI's online system on the Norwegian Health Network). You are told when the registration is complete, including any vaccines that could not be registered and why.

What counts as documentation?

A vaccination card from a clinic, the international yellow certificate (ICVP), a copy of your record from a clinic or hospital, a certificate from the vaccinator, or a screenshot from a foreign digital vaccination registry. The document must show the vaccine name, date and ideally the batch/lot number and vaccinator. Documentation in other languages is accepted – the doctor reads English, German, French, Spanish, Polish and the Nordic languages. For other languages a translation may be needed.

What happens if the documentation is not good enough?

If one or more vaccines cannot be registered (illegible documentation, not credible, not a vaccine SYSVAK accepts, or similar), the doctor gives you the reason. Vaccines that can be registered are registered. You are not charged per vaccine that cannot be registered – but the review itself costs the same however many vaccines it covers.

What does it cost?

379 NOK as a one-off payment – the same price however many vaccines you want registered. You pay after submitting the form, before the doctor takes the case.

Question 7

Can I use this without BankID?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer an alternative ID option where you upload a photo of your passport, driving licence or national ID card. The doctor checks your identity against the photo before registering. This is especially useful for newly arrived immigrants who do not have BankID yet.

Question 8

What about vaccines given in Norway before 2011?

Accepted Answer

Vaccines given in Norway before SYSVAK registration became mandatory (2011) are often not registered. We can register these too – upload your health card or a copy of your record from your GP (fastlege).

Question 9

Do you fetch the information directly from foreign registries?

Accepted Answer

No. SYSVAK has no automatic link to foreign vaccination registries today. The doctor relies on the documentation you upload. FHI is working on a new FHIR-based API that may allow more automatic exchange in the future, but it is not available to private services yet.

Question 10

How long are the documents I upload kept?

Accepted Answer

The documentation is kept as part of your medical record in line with the Norwegian Patient Records Act (10 years after the last entry, and at least until the patient is 25 for childhood vaccines). The SYSVAK registration itself is lifelong – that is the whole purpose of an immunisation registry.
