What kinds of documents can I send?

Blood tests and other lab results, discharge summaries and doctor’s letters, written MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound reports, and tissue sample reports. We read the written report, not the X-ray or MRI images themselves.

Does the doctor assess whether my treatment is right?

Accepted Answer

No. The doctor explains what the document says, but does not overrule whoever is treating you. If you want your treatment reassessed, your GP (fastlege) can help, for example with a referral for a new assessment.

Question 3

What if the doctor sees something serious?

Accepted Answer

The doctor then judges what is right to do. That may be explaining it in writing, calling you, or asking you to contact legevakt or the doctor who follows you up. The doctor reads the document within 24 hours, so if something worries you before then, call legevakt on 116 117.

Question 4

Does the doctor see my medical record?

Accepted Answer

No. The doctor only reads what you send and what you write in the form. That is why we ask about conditions and medicines. The doctor has not examined you either, and the explanation is about the document, not your health as a whole.

Question 5

Can I have a result explained for my child or my parents?

Accepted Answer

Not in this service. Start an e-consultation and attach the document, and the doctor will first check that you can be given the result.

Question 6

Shouldn’t the doctor who ordered the test explain it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You have the right to have medical terms in your record explained, and the doctor who follows you up remains responsible for the follow-up. Many people still see the result in Helsenorge long before their next appointment, or are left with questions afterwards. An explanation and a list of questions can make the next appointment more useful.

Where do I find the explanation?

On Min Side, in the chat in your case. You can also ask questions about the explanation there. The chat is deleted 30 days after the case is closed, so copy the questions and anything you want to keep.
